Adults Without Children in the Health Care Division may be eligible to expanded Medi-Cal coverage.
Expanded Medi-Cal Coverage:
The Affordable Care Act (ACA) expanded Medicaid (Medi-Cal in California) to previously ineligible adults (childless, non-disabled, non-elderly). Income levels increased to 138% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL) and the asset test was eliminated. The income calculation used to determine eligibility will be made using Modified Adjusted Gross Income (MAGI). MAGI is based on Federal income tax rules for determining adjusted gross income (with some modifications). There are Advance Premium Tax Credits (APTC) and Cost Sharing Reductions (CSR) subsidies available for families/individuals with income under 400% of FPL, from Covered California which is the state’s health benefit exchange under the ACA.
